STEVEN SANDY ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION AS FRANKLIN COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Franklin County Administrator Steven Sandy has notified the Franklin County Board of Supervisors of his intention to resign his position as County Administrator, effective November 30, 2026.

Sandy has served as Franklin County Administrator since February 2026, succeeding former County Administrator Christopher Whitlow. He has worked for Franklin County for more than 12 years, serving in multiple capacities within Community Development and County Administration.

In his resignation letter to the Board of Supervisors, Sandy cited personal family concerns as the reason for his decision to step down.

“This decision comes after much deliberation and prayer, but I believe this is the right decision for me and my family currently,” Sandy stated. “I have recently had some family health issues that require my attention and time. I believe this will afford me the opportunities that I need to assist my family during this season of my life and allow me to be present for them in their time of need. I truly will miss working with such a great team of elected officials and employees here in Franklin County.”

Board of Supervisors Chair Lorie Smith expressed appreciation for Sandy’s years of service to Franklin County.

“I want to thank Steven for his many years of dedicated service to Franklin County and for the leadership he has provided during his time as County Administrator,” said Chair Lorie Smith. “While I am sorry to see him step away from his role, we understand and respect his decision to prioritize his family during this time. We are grateful for his commitment to Franklin County and wish him and his family the very best in the days ahead.”
