He was also preceded in death by his dear wife Doris Ann (Boone) Shively, sister and brother-in-law Lois and James Meador and brother-in-law Andrew Cundiff and many brothers and sisters-in-law from the Boone family.
Lester is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Connie (Angle) Shively; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Donnie Montgomery; sisters and brother-in-law, Lottie Cundiff, Judy and Billy Talley; and sister-in-law, Nora Boone; grandchildren, Shawn and Kelli Shively, Shelly and Clem Hess, Jamie Montgomery, Brandon and Jessica Montgomery, Betsy Smith, Marcy and Aaron Crabtree, Katie and James Wisler. Lester was baptized in 2001 and joined the Primitive Baptist Church. After covid he attended Storey Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed worshipping there with his sisters. Lester spent most of his life as a mechanic, then service manager at Ramsey Ford in Rocky Mount. He then retired and worked a few years in sales at Skyline Ford in Floyd. Through those years dad loved to serve and became friends with his many customers. He willingly shared his mechanical skills with family and others. He enjoyed hunting, shooting guns, trading guns or anything with guns. He also loved to teach his children, grandchildren and friends to safely enjoy those things. Knocker Run Cabin became a very special place to him. A friend said that the original five are probably playing rook again. They are saying set the table up boys, Lester is on the way.
The family wishes to thank special caregiver, Christie Setliff whom dad dearly loved. And also to the nurses and staff at Runk and Pratt for their kindness and providing a safe environment in dad’s final days.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 29th at the Flora Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held immediately after with Pastor Billy Boone officiating.
