It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mabel Elizabeth Harden, who left this world on September 18, 2026, at the age of 83. Mabel departed peacefully, embraced by the love, thoughts and prayers of her family, after a courageous battle with illness.

Born on August 18, 1943, Mabel was a beacon of love and strength throughout her life. She was a beautiful daughter, a strong sister, a dedicated wife, a loving mother, and a gentle grandmother whose warmth touched every heart she encountered. Known for her sharp mind and quick wit, she had an uncanny ability to bring laughter and clarity to those around her. Her gentle strength could steady even the stormiest days, and she stood firm in her values, never wavering in her dedication to what mattered most: her family and her faith.

Mabel was predeceased by her dear parents, Ernest and Lula Shepperd; her beloved husband, William A. Harden; her cherished daughter, Daisy Mae Conner; and her brothers, Paul, Larry, George, and Robert Shepperd. She is survived by her siblings, Chester (Dianne) Shepperd, Frances Shelor, Christine (Gary) Metcalf, Dorothy Kane, and Gertrude Thomason. Her legacy of love continues through her children, Tammy Sauer, John (Sabrina) Harden, Bonnie (Tony) Robertson, Jim (Lisa) Harden, and Ilene (Randy) Savage. As a devoted grandmother, she leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Callie (Cameron) Carter, Hallie (Jacob) Vaughan, Paige and Amanda Harden, Rochelle and Rachel Spencer, Sam and Cora Adkins, David W. Conner, Jennifer Hicks, Mary, Kelley Jr., and Matthew Sauer. She is also survived by her great-grandsons, Caleb Carter, and Broly Eubank; and many special nieces and nephews.

To know Mabel was to witness a rare balance of grace and grit. She lived with purpose, compassion, and an unwavering light that will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to love her.

A service to celebrate Mabel’s life will take place on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Flora Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jackie Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Services and Cremation Center in Rocky Mount, VA.

Mabel’s spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her, and her life will be remembered with gratitude and love.
