Janice Brooks Holland, age 87 of Glade Hill, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 21, 2026. Janice was born on May 3, 1939 in Union Hall, VA. She was born to the late Ernest Lester Brooks and Era Virginia Ayers Brooks. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Charlie Odell Holland; parental in-laws, Alphonzo and Lucy Holland; two sisters, Myrtle Ernestine Brooks Amos (husband James Amos) and Betty Jane Brooks Wray (husband Clyde Virgil Wray); a brother-in-law, John Jay Lambert; and a dear cousin, Clarence Edward Brooks.

Janice is survived by one son, Roy Lynn Holland; one grandson, Jacob Lynn Holland of Rocky Mount, VA; one granddaughter, Cieanna Lynn Holland (fiancé Chris Nielsen) of Union Hall, VA; one sister, Nancy Brooks Lambert of Charlottesville and Glade Hill, VA also survives her. She is also survived by four nieces and nephews, Karen Ann Wray (friend Ernest Yopp) of Glade Hill, VA, Robert Daniel Amos of Glade Hill, VA, Ernest Lee Amos of Glade Hill, VA, Melinda Annette Wray of Charlottesville, VA; two grand nephews, Darrin Eugene Swihart II of Roanoke, VA, Jonathan Wayne Perdue of Charlottesville, VA; many nieces and nephews on the Holland side of the family; six cousins on the Ayers side of the family, Ronnie Law (Jamie), Judy Ayers Nunnenkamp (Bob), Brenda Perdue Overholt (Tom), Susan Law Dudley (Wayne), Nelson “Sonny” Ayers, Jr. (Debbie), Gary Law (Lori).

Janice was a hard-working daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a part of the 1957 graduating class of Franklin County High School.

Janice began her work career in 1957 and was the longest tenured employee of Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, when she retired in 2004. After 47 years of service, she continued to volunteer through the hospital’s auxiliary until the pandemic in 2020.

Janice was an active charter member and supporter of Franklin Heights Church. She was on the social committee for many years.

Janice did volunteer work at Stepping Stone Mission and was known for her chicken salad. She was also well known among family and friends for her tenderloin biscuits.

Janice was an active member of Woodmen Life, Lodge 89, serving as Treasurer for many years. She was recognized as the Woodmen (of the World) 2013 Virginia Fraternalist of the Year.

Janice received a special resolution in the Commonwealth General Assembly put in motion by Delegate Charles Poindexter in 2011 for services rendered to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital and the community.

Janice’s family would like for her to be remembered for her love of family, colleagues and numerous friends. She was blessed with 87 years of life and the knowledge and skills to serve others. She was proud to always live in Franklin County.

The family acknowledges and appreciates the “spoiling” by numerous caregivers over the last four years including, Patricia Bennett, Deborah Brown, Pat Hodges, Kaitlyn Wilcher, Marjorie Mason, Amanda Eanes, Rose Mary Williams, Peggy Scott, Annette Dalton and also the staff at Rocky Mount Health and Rehab and Good Samaritan Hospice Team for the excellent care provided following her hip fracture in early June.

Funeral services will be held at Franklin Heights Church, 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2026. Interment will follow in the Ayers Family Cemetery on Ayers Road in Glade Hill, VA. She will be laid to rest with her husband, parents, grandparents, a sister and two brothers-in-law, along with lots of other Ayers descendants. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Franklin Heights Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
