Thomas “Tom” Edward Regan

Thomas Edward Regan, 69, of Hardy, VA passed away on July 19, 2026, at his residence after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was the loving husband of Julie Smith Regan for almost 42 years.

Born on 10/13/1956 in Ogdensburg, NY, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (LaComb) Regan. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1974 and went on to earn his accounting degrees from Canton ATC and Clarkson University and eventually his CPA license. He retired as a financial analyst, after 31 years of service, with Framatome, a nuclear services company in Lynchburg, VA.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory three children, Kathryn Mendel (Eric) of Lynchburg, VA, Kevin Regan (Nicole) of Aberdeen, NC, and Patrick Regan (Emily) of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren, Isaac Regan, Joshua Regan, Grayson Mendel, Owen Mendel, James Regan, Elisabeth Regan, and Allison Regan; and Swiss “son”, Yannick Gruber.

Tom is also survived by three siblings, Timothy Regan (Colleen), David Regan, and Jan Felt (Larry); sister-in-law, Jean Regan; brother-in-law, James Myers; mother-in-law, Kathleen Smith; and a plethora of Smith and Regan relatives. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his siblings Gayle Regan Myers and Lawrence Regan.

Tom was a good friend to many and known for his quick wit, love of hot wings and a good lager, fashion sense (flannels, jeans & khakis), and an uncanny ability to do mental math calculations, recite limericks, and memorize speeches.

He also embodied the spirit of volunteerism having participated on numerous boards, coached many youth sports, and most recently, gave much of his free time helping at Lake Christian Ministries in Moneta, VA. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 595, in Forest VA, for over 30 years.

The family would like to thank the Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Berkshire Health & Rehabilitation Center, and Good Samaritan Hospice organizations for their care, treatment, and understanding during Tom’s illness. And to our many friends and neighbors, we are forever grateful for your love, support, and prayers.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 15353 Moneta Road, Moneta VA.

Memorial donations may be made to Lake Christian Ministries, Moneta VA or Good Samaritan Hospice, Roanoke VA.
