Carolyn Young Irvin

February 11, 1944 — July 24, 2026

Carolyn Young Irvin, 82, of Glade Hill, VA went home to the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2026. Carolyn was born on a snowy February 11, 1944 to the late Morton and Charlotte (Hudson) Young.

Left to cherish her life are her adored children, Anne Flora (Kurtis) and Gary Tickle (Tami); lights of her eye grandchildren, Deanna Flora (Brandon), Emily Hicks (Stephen), Tyler Flora (Jessica), Vel Tickle; joys of her life great-grandchildren, Marleigh, Wyatt, Remington, Ellie, Teegan, Andrew and Luke; brother, Lowell Young (Janet); brother-in-law, Terry Irvin (Donna); nieces and nephews; special cousin, Arlene Dudley; and special niece, Melissa Hale (Duane).

She was also preceded by her treasured husband of 42 years, Thomas Reed Irvin, Jr.; and brother, Ronald Young.

Carolyn was a kind and gentle lady whose passion in life was her family. She was a devoted wife and daughter, always caring for her loved ones. Nothing gave her more joy than being with them. Carolyn’s love was most often shared through the food she prepared. An exceptional cook, she was especially known for her German Chocolate birthday cakes and holiday dinners, especially Christmas Eve. Along with her husband, she enjoyed setting out on a road trip to “see what was on the other side of the hill.” She made lifelong friends and their time together brought her great joy.

Outside of her home, she retired from Trinity Mission where as an activity coordinator, she worked with senior residents-meeting them where they were with her gentle acceptance and compassion.

Our love and gratitude to her friends: Arlene, Frances, Merle, Margie, Phyllis and neighbors, and Pastor Deke, who rallied around her and her family during Carolyn’s battle.

A celebration of life will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, followed by burial at Franklin Memorial Park with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating.

Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
