James “Wilson” Carter
June 3, 1938 – March 13, 2025

James “Wilson” Carter, age 86 of Burnt Chimney passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Eliza “Sis” Carter, wife Carolyn “Kitty” Fralin Carter, brothers, Ronnie and Glen Carter, sister Linda Stone, nephews, Ricky and David Carter, and his in-laws, Cecil and Ruth Fralin.
He is survived by his daughter and son in-law, Cathy and Mike Thurman and his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye, Crystal Richardson (Shawn), Lindsey Shelton (Barry). He also adored being “Papa Wilson” to Owen Richardson, Lena Shelton and Ruth Shelton. In addition, he leaves to cherish his memory: brothers, Cam, Roger, and Milton Carter, and sisters, Bettie Powell and Donna Hatcher. Also surviving him are sister-in-law, Mildred Rigney, brothers-in-law, Oliver, Terry and Keith Fralin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved and always welcomed into his home.

Wilson will be greatly missed for many reasons, but especially for his quiet and gentle nature and his ability to give unconditional love.
A graveside service will be held at Franklin Memorial Park, 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025 with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org). His family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
