Herbert H. Bowling, age 91 of Rocky Mount, VA passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Beulah Dixon Bowling; wife, Zilphia; sister, Diamond Boyd (Lane); and brother, Okie. He is survived by his sons, Wes Bowling and Gary Bowling (Susan); his brother, Hosea Bowling; and sister, Eva Pyron. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mason, Kylie and Claire Bowling, Kristen Brubaker (Tyler) and Ericka Solano (Glen); great-grandchildren, Jonah and Perry Solano as well as Meredith Brubaker. Herbert was a barber for over 60 years in Rocky Mount and enjoyed the social interaction he had with his customers and talking about any and every subject locally to nationally. He was a NASCAR fan and he and his wife (Zilphia) spent time going to Bluegrass festivals. They also attend local dances where they could listen to music and flat foot. He enjoyed time at his farm house in Patrick County where he would spend time riding his ATV and hunting with his sons. Herbert was an Army Veteran and served in Germany. He had numerous stories about his time in the Army and he would share stories with his family and friends. He was a lifelong and charter member of New Life Baptist Church in Ferrum. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2024 with Pastor Bradley Turner officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
