Eagle JV, Varsity Football Games Postponed as Middle, High School Go Virtual Until Next Tue.

ROCKY MOUNT – The scheduled football games for the Franklin County Eagle’s Junior Varsity and Varsity teams against Salem have been postponed, according to school officials.

The announcement came Thursday afternoon as Superintendent Bernice Cobbs sent an update to the community suspending in person learning until next Tuesday, September 7, 2021 so the middle and high schools along with the Gereau Center are cleaned and sanitized.

COVID cases and contact tracing of the cases were rising at a much faster rate as the highly-contagious Delta variant emerged just as schools reopened.

There’s no word yet of a make-up date.

The announcement reads as follows:

“In consultation with the Virginia Department of Health, Benjamin Franklin Middle School, The Gereau Center, and Franklin County High School will go to virtual learning on Friday, September 3, 2021.  The purpose of this action is to provide additional sanitization to facilities to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

In-person instruction will resume Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

All high school and middle school staff will report to their buildings on Friday, September 3rd to provide virtual instruction on Canvas.

Students will be required to log in at the start of each class.

Families who wish to participate in meal pick-up can do so at any elementary school in Franklin County between 11:30 am -12:30 pm on Friday, September 3, 2021.

All co-curricular and extra-curricular activities will be canceled beginning at 4:00 pm today (September 2nd) and resume on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

All Franklin County elementary schools will continue in-person instruction on Friday, September 3, 2021.”
