Dorothy Lorraine Ross Edwards
On July 22, 2021, Dorothy Lorraine Ross Edwards, departed this earth at Franklin Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rocky Mount, Va. Born in Rocky Mount, VA on March 16, 1933, she was the second daughter of George and Leoma Ross. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Edwards; two sons, Dennis Edwards and Anthony Edwards; and two infant daughters. She attended and graduated Franklin County Training School and also attended classes at Virginia Western Community College. She worked at Lane Furniture and Martin Processing while raising her children. When she retired, in addition to her own children and grandchildren, she was a baby-sitter for several friends. She put her heart into whatever she did- she was not afraid of “hard work”, she loved her children and grandchildren, cooking and gardening. She joined Coles Creek Baptist Church at a young age and joined Bright Star Baptist Church later in life. She held several positions in both churches, including: Church Clerk, Usher Board, Kitchen Committee, Missionary, Willing Workers, and others. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Robert Ross, Martinsville, Va. and Mark Edwards (Gabby), Frankfort, Germany; six daughters, W. Kay Cooper, Phyllis Snyder (Frank), Beverly Mattox, Tracie Brandon (Ray), Trudie Edwards, Terrie Townes all of Rocky Mount, Va.; fifteen grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene “Nelson” Ross, Wilmington, Delaware; two sisters, Willie Mae Holland, Glade Hill, Va., Mary Hancock, Columbus, OH; three sisters-in-law, Martha (Clarence), Patsy Helms, Ollie Edwards; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2021 at Coles Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Woodrow Walker, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
