Brenda Mae Anderson Akers

Brenda Mae Anderson Akers, 77, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2020 in her home in Rocky Mount, Virginia.  She was the wife of Selma (Duck) Akers and they enjoyed 58 years of a loving and fulfilling marriage.

Born in Rocky Mount, Virginia, she was the daughter of Tillie and Violet Anderson and was preceded in death by them. She was an active, lifelong member at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Sydnorsville VA and was involved in all aspects of church life. You could often find her in her garden, cooking for her family, spending time with her grandchildren, working on the latest sewing project, hanging out at the beach or loving on her fur baby, Mia.  She was the matriarch of her community, acting as mother and grandmother to her extended family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband and daughters Susan Hodges, Robin Wunderlich (Dana), and Karen Hagy (Larry Chinsky).  She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Zachary Hodges and Caitlin Hodges Abelseth (Jacob), Megan and Tyler Wunderlich, and Braeton and Caroline Hagy; and one great grandchild, Cadence Abelseth. She is also survived by three sisters, Delphie Grindstaff (Darryl), Janice Davis (George), and Tammi Mitchell (Danny), and one brother, Larry Anderson (Delores) and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist  Church,  1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2021.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Sydnorsville, Virginia.
