Lawrence Wayne Motley
Lawrence Wayne Motley, age 78 of Rocky Mount, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away peacefully from his birth home to his heavenly home on Friday, July 2, 2021. He was born on April 29, 1943 to the late John Henry and Daisy Campbell Motley. He was preceded in death by his seven brothers and seven sisters (Lloyd, Robert, Jim, Calvin, Alton, George, Gerald, Doris, Gladys, Bertha, Frances, Catherine, Mary, and Liz) Wayne was the last of the infamous 15 children of John and Daisy.
Wayne started as a carpenter for E. I. DuPont in Martinsville before beginning his work of being a leader in the field of
agriculture raising tobacco, wheat, hay, and beef cattle. He continued his love for farming until his health would no longer allow him to labor his passion. Wayne is survived by his sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Dotsie Brown Motley; daughter, Sandy Motley Cooper (Chris); son, Richard Wayne Motley (Teresa); grandsons, Evan Wayne Motley, Jacob Cooper,and Joshua Cooper; step-grandson, Brentlee Plybon; and great- granddaughter, Cambrie Bella Motley. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as special friends, Buddy Witcher, Virgil Motley, Ike Cockfield. and Del. Charles Poindexter.
Wayne was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church where in years past he served on the Building and Grounds Committee. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Chapel with Pastor Keith Floyd presiding. Burial
service will follow at the Motley Farm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Snow Creek Rescue Squad, or Snow Creek Fire Department. The family would like to send special thank you to Franklin County Public Safety (Billy Akers and Brent McCarthy), Snow Creek Rescue Squad (Larry Linkous), Snow Creek Fire Department (Mark Law), Franklin County Sheriff’s Department (Deputy Ricky Davis), and Chaplain Pamela Hodges.
