Traffic Alert: 220 South Closed at the Route 40 Exit Due to Accident

ROCKY MOUNT – Franklin County officials issues a Code Red alert for a major accident reportedly involving a scrap metal tractor trailer.

All southbound lanes of 220 are blocked at the Route 40 exit. The left northbound shoulder and lane of 220 is also blocked.

The call was reported around 3:30 p.m. Lifeguard 10 is reportedly on standby.

The Code Red alert says, “

Please hold for a Franklin County Code Red Notification. Due to a motor vehicle accident, 220 southbound highway is closed at the Route 40 / Old Franklin Turnpike exit ramp. Please expect delays while traffic is being diverted. The road will be closed for an unknown amount of time. If this section of 220 Southbound is apart of your daily travels, please consider an alternate route.
