Wild Animals & the Biology Behind Being Cute, Ugly or Both
Wild Animals & the Biology Behind Being Cute, Ugly or Both
–
March 19, 2019The Franklin County Public Library’s “Myths & Facts Virginia Wildlife Series” welcomes Jason Davis, Associate Professor of Biology at Radford University, in the presentation, “Wild Animals & the Biology Behind Being Cute, Ugly or Both.” Armed with eye-catching photos and cutting-edge data on wildlife (and human) biology and behavior, Professor Davis will discuss some of the age-old questions of evolution, including: What does it mean to be truly, deeply, powerfully…cute? What makes ugliness unappealing? If beauty is really in the eye of the beholder, is it built in from the beginning or do we learn what to love? Covering some of Virginia’s cutest and creepiest wildlife, Professor Davis will explore why evolution might have hardwired animals, including humans, to find some features and creatures to be more adorable than others. Together, we’ll consider why we should give some of nature’s less charismatic creatures a second look. The program is free and will take place at the FCPL's branch in Rocky Mount. Please reserve a seat by calling (540) 483-3098 option 0.
