Flora Funeral Service Obituary: Loleine Barnhart Fisher
Loleine Barnhart Fisher, formerly of Callaway, Va, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Born May 24, 1925, she was pre-deceased by her parents, Harry and Lecta Bussey Barnhart; daughter Mary Beth Fisher; sisters Hazel Fisher, Dorothy Barnhart, and Arvilla May; former husband Jack P. Fisher, Sr.; grandsons Jay Fisher and Keith Laprade; daughter-in-law Annette Cundiff. She is survived by her children, Jack P. Fisher, Jr. and friend Linda Tyree, Jane F. Laprade and Daniel, L. Edward Fisher and Cyn, Ava L. Fisher; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Catherine Landis and Fred, brother H.N. Barnhart and friend Reba Wood. Loleine was a school teacher at Callaway High School and Franklin County High School for many years. She received an undergraduate degree from Bridgewater College and a Master’s of Art in Liberal Studies from Hollins College. While she began her career teaching Physical Education, her true love was teaching English and Literature, which she was able to do after receiving her degree. One of the highlights of her teaching career was the work she was able to do on the Annual Staff Yearbook. She had many beloved students. She also worked as an assistant at the Callaway Post Office. Loleine will be remembered for her class, her commitment to her family and friends, and the zeal with which she lived each moment of her long life. The family expresses deep appreciation to her caregivers, Ava Fisher, Liz Young, and Margaret Brown for all the ways they helped keep her life full all the way to the end. Visitation will be at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center in Rocky Mount on Friday, May 10, from 6-8PM. A Memorial Service will also be at Flora Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 11 at 11AM, officiated by Rev. Cindy Laprade Lattimer. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Highland United Methodist Church or the Callaway Rescue Squad.
