Mark Dean Sutphin
Mark Dean Sutphin, age 52 of Swansboro, NC died Wednesday, December 30, 2020. He was born on June 26, 1968 to Glen and Cheryl Sutphin. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Edna Laxton; paternal grandparents, Kyle and Ocie Sutphin; uncles, Fred Laxton, Robert Laxton, Richard Laxton, Betty (Laxton) Rouse and Jimmy Sutphin. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 20 wonderful years, Rebecca (Duncan) Sutphin; in-laws, Bron and Lakricia Duncan. Mark graduated from Fieldale-Collinsville High School in 1986 and earned his Paramedic degree from the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke and a Drafting degree from Patrick Henry Community College. Mark dedicated his life to volunteer rescue. He started at the age of 16 and it quickly became his passion. He received Honorary Life Membership of Fieldale Collinsville Rescue Squad on January 12, 2020. He was also a member of Horse Pasture, Fieldale-Collinsville, South Boston, and Salem Rescue Squads. His employment included Town Gun Shop in Martinsville, Stone Ambulance Service, South Boston Rescue Squad and Roanoke Electric Steel as a Safety Paramedic. Mark was also an Amateur Radio Operator for 25 years and had his Amateur Extra License. He was a member of many amateur radio clubs. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Rest Natural Cemetery at Mountain View Memorial Park. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
