Franklin Co. Parks & Rec. Suspends All Activities, Closes Essig Center
ROCKY MOUNT- Due to concerns about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) the Commonwealth of Virginia has closed all schools for two weeks. Franklin County Parks and Recreation has historically followed school closures and will be taking the following actions:
1) All athletics will be suspended until further notice. At this time, we are hoping that this will only delay our Spring Season. If, however this situation is prolonged and the Spring Season is canceled, full refunds will be given.
2) All scheduled activities will be suspended until further notice. This includes activities such as exercise programs, hikes, art classes, pickleball, etc. We will do our best to reschedule these for a later date. If the activity is cancelled a refund will be given.
3) Due to the suspension of all activities, the Essig Center will be closed until further notice. All reservations will be rescheduled or given a refund.
4) Non-essential medical transportations for Senior Services will be suspended until further notice.
5) Parks will remain open but all playgrounds and bathrooms will be closed. Impacted shelter reservations will be rescheduled or given a refund. No additional reservations will be permitted until further notice.
6) The Franklin County Parks and Recreation Administration office at the Recreation Park will remain open, however we request that you contact us by phone (540 483-9293) or by email ([email protected]) to avoid community spread.
We are closely monitoring this situation and will continue to post updates on this as they develop. Please visit www.vdh.virginia.gov and www.cdc.gov to learn more about this issue.
