Police Arrest Man For Making False Report About Active Shooter at Walmart
ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – A Franklin County man was arrested by Rocky Mount Police Monday for making a false report about a shooter at the Rocky Mount Wal-Mart.
Rocky Mount Police have arrested Mason Harrison States, age 24, of 77 John Arthur Road, Boones Mill. Police responded to Wal-Mart for repeated 911 hang-up calls, followed by a call from the same number indicated an active shooter at Wal-Mart.
Officers from Rocky Mount Police, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police responded to the scene. Officers confirmed the business was operating as usual.
A search of a wooded area near the store located States, who was unarmed. After investigation, officers charged States with making a false report and using a phone to interfere with police operations. Additional charges are pending consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office.
States is being held without bond at the Franklin County jail.
“There is no reason to believe there is any threat to the community at this time,” said Rocky Mount Police Chief K.E. Criner. “We appreciate the rapid response of our officers, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police.”
“We will not stand for this type of disruptive event,” Criner said. “The daily safety and security of our residents and visitors is our primary concern, and we will do everything we can to ensure acts like this are punished to the full extent of the law.”
