BREAKING: Hardy Murder Suspect Believed to be Traveling On-Foot in the Grandin Road Area of Roanoke City
ROANOKE – Roanoke City Police Chief Tim Jones says the suspect in a Hardy murder may be traveling on foot in the Roanoke City area this Thursday morning.
Jones made the announcement at a press conference at 7 a.m.
Michael Brown was beleived to be in South Carolina after one of his vehicle’s was recently found there. Then early this morning, a resident of Tillett Road in Roanoke reported that a man was knocking on windows around 4 a.m., Jones said. The man is believed to be Brown. An RV that Brown used to get back to the area from South Carolina was found nearby and has been cleared by federal authorities.
Jonea said Brown, 22, may be seeking alternative forms of transportation including Uber, taxis, buses and cars, Jones said. Brown is wanted for killing his mother’s boyfriend, Rodney Brown on Saturday.
Roanoke City Schools have been closed Thursday as Patrick Henry High School is used as a staging area. Reports of a shooting this morning are unfounded, Roanoke City school officials say.
People within a half mile radius of the 2100 block of Grandin Road SW are being asked to lock their doors and shelter in place today. Brown is a veteran and believed to be in possession of high powered, shoulder style ammunition, Jones said.
