Mary Jane McNeil Flora

November 10, 1956 – August 4, 2024

Mary Jane was born November 10, 1956 to Donald and Frances McNeil. Mary dedicated her life to helping other beginning as a volunteer paramedic in her teens into early adulthood, a registered nurse, special education teacher with Roanoke County, volunteer for Operation Christmas Joy at Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, helping inmates obtain GED’s at Roanoke County/Salem jail, training and certifying hundreds of individuals in CPR/First Aid, and a volunteer fire/rescue worker for Boones Mill for 30+ years. Mary was a Christian, became a believer and was baptized at an early age. She was active in several churches, serving in the children’s ministry. She felt the need to serve the Lord in this way due to her skills and ability to connect with children. Most recently she was active with children’s groups at Franklin Heights Church, 110 Hilltop Drive, Rocky Mount. Mary married Wendell Wray Flora on April 29th, 1979. They spent their time together working on the farm and going above and beyond for their community. Also left to cherish her memory are mother, Frances McNeil; brothers, Donald (Sheila) McNeil, David (Dianne) McNeil; and sister-in-law, Barbra McNeil. Numerous nieces and nephews left to remember Aunt MJ’s famous desserts and the ability to be the loudest person in any room. Mary was blessed with many cousins, friends, and neighbors all of whom will miss her terribly. Mary entered the gates of heaven on August 4th, 2024 and had a joyous reunion with her father Donald McNeil and brother John McNeil. After a life in the medical field MJ was passionate about donating her body to science.
