Jewell Allen Brown, Sr.

Jewell Allen Brown, Sr., age 72 of Glade Hill died Sunday, July 21, 2024 peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Curtis “Fatty” and Sallie Kate Brooks Brown; brothers, Perry Brown, Rueben Brown (Jean) and J.C. Brown (Mary); sisters, Kitty Beale (Luther), Melva Pendleton (Jake), Elva Kirby (Jack), Ruth Sigmon (Wayne) and Sue Sigmon (Nick). 

Jewell is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Shelia S. Brown; son, Jewell Brown, Jr. (Linda); daughter, Tina M. Brown; grandchildren, Zeke, Cody B., Coleman, Gabriel, Christina, Kody S., Ashley, Bailey and three great-grandchildren; Kaden, Myles and Romyn; siblings, Patsy Belcher (Frankie), Chris Pendleton, Ann Agee (Richard, deceased), Paul Brown (Mary Alice), Jimmy Brown (Janice) and sister-in-law, Margaret Brown, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. 

A gentle giant, Jewell never met a stranger. He was a hard-working dairy and tobacco farmer with his wife and kids at his side. 

Jewell loved the land, hunting with his son and grandsons, and flatfooting with his family. He made the best homemade eggnog, only sharing the recipe with special friends. His generosity will be missed, along with his deep laugh and mischievous grin. 

The family would like to extend gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their kindness and assistance during Jewell’s illness, along with Dr. Powell and special nurses, Terry, Mary and Mark.

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 12 noon Wednesday, July 24, 2024 with Pastor Jackie Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Services and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
