Maybelle Rakes Flora (April 22, 1925 – May 8, 2024) lived her 99 years characterized by uncommon vitality and unwavering devotion to her family. With grace and resilience, she embraced each chapter of her journey with fortitude and compassion.
For over nine decades, Maybelle graced this world with her presence, her courageous spirit shining brightly through the years. Alongside her beloved husband, Ernest D. Flora, she navigated life with remarkable strength and unwavering love. Despite the challenges presented by Ernest’s health struggles with COPD and Alzheimer’s, Maybelle stood steadfastly by his side, providing care and comfort in their cherished home in Boones Mill until 89 years of age.
In a testament to her boundless love and selflessness, Maybelle and Ernest made the decision to relocate to Forest, VA, where they lived with their daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Doug Elder. Maybelle’s steadfast care continued to be a source of comfort and strength until Ernest’s peaceful passing a year later.
Maybelle’s legacy extends beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her tireless work ethic, prudent stewardship, and generosity knew no bounds. Whether tending to her bountiful garden, sharing her culinary delights, or offering a helping hand to those in need, Maybelle embodied the true essence of service and kindness.
Maybelle is also fondly remembered by her family as a devout follower of Christ, whose deep faith was evident in her frequent engagement with Scripture and diligent study of the Word of God. In her unwavering commitment to her spiritual journey, she not only set a profound example but also leaves behind a rich and enduring spiritual legacy.
Maybelle is survived by her loving family, including her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Doug Elder of Forest, Va, and Brenda and Roger Bloyd of Louisville, KY. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Brittany, and her husband, Seth Schilling, along with their son, Solomon Schilling, all of Burns, TN.
