James Gerald Powell

James Gerald Powell, age 44 of Martinsville, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023. James was a devoted, loving father and husband. He always carried a smile on his face and had a heart of gold. You could always find him cooking a good meal in the kitchen or out on the water fishing. He held his children incredibly close to his heart, always willing to show his support for them. He will be missed by all who knew him. His family cherishes the memories they have with him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Hodges Powell. Surviving are his loving wife, Jennifer Altice Powell; his children, Lauren (Seth), Lindsay (Jeffery), Melody, and Phillip; grandchild, Cole Mabry; father, Gerald Powell; grandmother, Maxine Dickerson; special aunt and uncle, Rhonda and Richard Brizendine; special cousins, Travis and Laurie Mullins; mother and father-in-law, Linda and Ronald Altice; brother-in-law, Kevin Altice (Jodey); nephews, Joshua (Casey), Justin (Lizzie), and Jonathan; dear friends, Andy Self (Amy), Chris and Sabrina Cobbler; special neighbor, Jimmy; numerous other significant friends and family. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
