Flora Funeral Service Obituary: Roger Patton Scott

Roger Patton Scott, 87, of Callaway, Virginia passed away at his home on February 21. He was cherished and loved by his family and friends. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Karen Scott; his daughter, Heather Scott Morrison, son-in-law, Peter, grandchildren, Skylar, Brady, Zack and Hallie of Haymarket, Virginia; sister Marilyn Phillips, brother-in-law, Robert, nephew Scott Phillips, nieces Paige Glynn and Mindy Richards, and their families, all of Lockport, New York; and his beloved Border Collie, Peggie. The son of Marion and Roger (Sr.), he was born in Mineola (Long Island), New York on October 30, 1931, but spent his entire youth in Lockport. He graduated from Lockport High School in 1949 and earned a bachelor’s degree from General Motors Institute in 1954.

Roger began his multi-faceted career serving in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps. from 1955-1957 and remained in the Army Reserves until 1962. He worked in New York for General Motors, 3M, and Rotron. In Pennsylvania, he worked for Carey McFalls, and in Malta, Ohio for Phillips Industries. During the 10 years he lived in Ohio, Roger started a large Christmas tree farm and raised beef cattle. In 1986, he became Vice President of Manufacturing at MW Windows in Rocky Mount, Virginia, where, among other accomplishments, he designed the innovative Freedom Clad Window line.

After retiring in 1996, Roger, passionate about military history, chartered the Roanoke WWII History Round Table. Sharing his business experience of over four decades, Roger volunteered for 15 years at the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and was awarded the Small Business Advocate of the Year in 2007 by the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce. Roger had many hobbies including restoring antique cars, scuba diving, and skiing with the
Roanoke Ski Club. He was an avid reader of WWII history. He loved to hunt and particularly enjoyed his hunting trips to Europe and a hunting safari in Africa. Roger and Karen traveled to the corners of the globe visiting Hawaii, Alaska, all of Europe, Russia, China, Central America, the South Pacific, and the Galapagos Islands. Later, they enjoyed many relaxing trips to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.
