Rex Brown Burrus

September 14, 1955 — October 3, 2026

Rex Brown Burrus, 71, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away with his family by his side on October 3rd, 2026. Born and raised in Franklin County, Rex graduated from Franklin County School and earned a baccalaureate degree from Radford University.

Rex started his career at Liggett & Meyers selling Redman Tobacco. From there he went on to work for Clark Brothers Building Supply selling building supplies as well as learning how to estimate building costs and supplies. He later went on to build a fulfilling career at Capps Home Building Center, where he was an estimator known for his dedication, expert skills, and knowledge. He was respected by developers, contractors, and homeowners.

Rex grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep love for baseball, golf, hunting, and woodworking. His true joy was watching his daughter and grandchildren grow, develop, and participate in a variety of sports.

Over the years, Rex formed lasting friendships and was always ready to meet the needs of those he loved. He will be remembered for his quick humor, eyebrow raise, generous heart, and the many ways he made others feel included.

Rex was preceded in death his parents, Woodrow and Jane Burrus, and fiancé, Ruth Neice.

He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Kevin Pond; granddaughters, Layla, Libby, and Lucie Pond; and grandson, Logan Pond, all of Midlothian, VA. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Brenda Burrus of Riner, VA and John and Pat Burrus of Christiansburg, VA; nieces, Bethany Alexander (Kevin) of Knoxville, TN and Breanna Hager (Will) of Dublin, VA; and nephew, Brad Burrus (Shelly) of Pulaski, VA; along with several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Special thanks to friends Kirk Morgan, Nick Jones, and Donna Barbour for all their help and continued support, especially over the last month.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a service immediately following on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
