Morris Lee Hughes
March 15, 1950 — October 1, 2026

Morris Lee “Ronnie” Hughes, age 76 of Martinsville passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026 after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses. He was born in Franklin County, VA to the late Alex William and Sallie Ann Hughes.
He attended Franklin County Schools before moving to Martinsville. It was here he secured a job building homes for Nationwide where he stayed for the better part of his life. He moved on to work various other jobs before finally retiring. He lived life on his terms and enjoyed it to the fullest. Having raised a son, he found himself a lady friend that became his loving companion for many years. Always keeping things simple he enjoyed a little time fishing, watching wrestling (Ric Flair was his all-time favorite), and of course the Dallas Cowboys to name a few. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex William and Sally Ann; son, Jamelle; and sister, Joyce.
Those left to carry on his memory are his loving and caring companion, Angie Hairston; nephew, Greg and wife Angela; Kiesha Hairston and special friend and right-hand man, Jeff Hairston; along with a host of cousins and friends. His personality was unique as his humor. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Interment will follow in the Hughes Family Cemetery (Goose Dam Road). His family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
