Jody L. Lawson

July 24, 1955 — September 7, 2026

Jody L. Lawson, age 71 of Penhook died Monday, September 7, 2026 at Franklin Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 24, 1955 the daughter of James C. Chaffin and Alberta S. Chaffin. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Janet M. Harper. Jody was a Sunday School Teacher at her church for many years. She also had numerous college degrees including criminology, education, and finance. Jody worked many years in banking ending her career as Bank Vice-President. She then pursued a career in education retiring as a Special Education Teacher for Chesterfield County Public Schools. Jody is survived by her beloved husband, Charles “Charlie” Barbour, Sr.; two brothers, James S. Chaffin and Charles Chaffin; daughter, Amy Lawson and her husband, Corey Ellis; along with her grandchildren, Lawson J. Ellis and Stetson J. Ellis; son, Andrew Lawson and his wife, Megan Holley; along with grandson, Asher H. Lawson; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will be having a Celebration of Life for her at Christ Community Church on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Pastor Derek Layman. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
