Richard Wayne Frye
August 30, 1952 — August 14, 2026

Richard “Rick” Wayne Frye, 73, passed away peacefully after a long battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, August 14, 2026. He was born on August 30, 1952, to the late Alfred Mason Frye and Barbara Ann Chiles Frye.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Debra Robinson Frye; daughters, Amy Myrick (Brad) and Erin Frye; step-children, Conner Hodges (Casey), Jonathan Jones and Grace Smith (Jacob); grandchildren, Riley and Dylan Myrick, Abram Rosenthal, Casyn, Rayne and Rydge Hodges, Aiden and Noah Jones; nephew and niece; Shaunn Oaten (Hashi), Lindsay Audit (Chris); many great-nieces and nephews; his beloved sister, Sandy Oaten (Ronnie); and the best aunts ever, Betty Ross, Bonnie Bronner and Sue House.
Rick worked for many years at a shipyard in Hampton Roads area, also at M & W in Rocky Mount, and as an electrician on the trains for Norfolk Southern. He was a master carpenter, often donating his time at Jamestown, working with Williamsburg on the Old Chapel Church in Snow Creek, and donating time and energy to build and repair many things at the Blue Ridge Farm Museum at Ferrum College. When not busy with his jobs he loved doing things with his family and traveling with his wife. He was an active member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church and often worked behind the scenes on many projects.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life for him at Twin Oaks Baptist Church (2313 Henry Road, Ferrum, VA) on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be former pastor Terry Covey. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the church’s fund in his memory.
