FRANKLIN COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY ANNOUNCESTHE HoHa DAIRY SPAY NEUTER FUND

Franklin County Humane Society is pleased to announce that a generous donation from the Hopkins
Family is being used to create the HoHa Dairy Spay Neuter Fund to assist with spay neuter costs for
the pets of qualified Franklin County residents. The donation was made in honor of the Hopkins
Family’s Uncle Henry and Aunt Carolyn and their brother Carter Hopkins. Henry, Carolyn and Carter
ran the HoHa Dairy Farm which was in the Callaway area of Franklin County and shared a love and
compassion for the many stray cats and dogs that found a home at the Farm.

“Our aunt, uncle and brother strongly believed in the importance of spaying and neutering all the strays
that came to live at their farm,” said the Hopkins Family in a joint statement. “We are happy we can
continue to support their efforts via the Franklin County Humane Society.”

Franklin County residents can qualify for these very low prices by providing proof of assistance (i.e.
disability, SNAP, etc) when making the appointment. The fees will start at $15 for spay/neuter, rabies
vaccine and ear tip for any outside cat.

“Our hope is this will encourage residents feeding outside cats to get the cats spayed, neutered and
vaccinated,” said Donna Essig, President of FCHS. “This will reduce the numbers of kittens born each
year to outside cats which overwhelm shelters every year.”

Residents of Franklin County receiving assistance can also get their canine family member spayed/
neutered at a discounted rate under the HoHa fund as well.

The humane society’s Planned Pethood Clinic offers significantly reduced fees for indoor cats and
for dogs for residents of all counties every day. The Humane Society recommends that pets be altered
by four months of age to prevent unplanned litters. Kittens as young as four months and puppies as
young as five months are old enough to produce their first litter just two months later. Appointments are
based on availability. For more information or to schedule an appointment call 540-489-3491.
