James Larry Hughes

James Larry “Jimmy” Hughes, age 76 of Wirtz died Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born December 27, 1949 and was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Talmadge Hughes, Sr. and Margaret Louise Wright. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Talmadge Hughes, Jr.; father-in-law, Oakey Giles Perdue who was a dear friend; and special friend, Everette Bussey. Jimmy graduated in 1968 from Clifton Forge High School. He loved collecting and selling hot wheels and coins. He was an avid gun collector and was a huge music fan who enjoyed making those close to him laugh. Surviving are his wife, Judy Ann Perdue Hughes; daughter, Jesika Ann Bussey (Terry); son, James Michael Hughes (Cassie); grandchildren, Kaylee, Kynzlee and Kaynan Bussey; mother-in-law, Martha Perdue; in-laws, Doris Richards (Allen), David Perdue (Brenda), Alice Martin (Wade), Roger Eugene Perdue, Joyce St. Clair, Giles Perdue; sister-in-law, Ramona Hughes; brother, Bruce Lee Hughes (Michelle); many, many nieces and nephews; and his special pet, Cheddar. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2026 with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
