Boones Mill

Julia Ann Bowman, 63, of Boones Mill, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Julia was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter and friend whose kindness and compassion touched countless lives.

Julia’s greatest joy was her family, especially her six beloved grandchildren: Cheyenne, Wyatt, Isabella, Gatlynn, Levi, and Emilia. She cherished every moment spent with them, and they were truly the light of her life.

Julia was preceded in death by her father, James Willard Bowman.

She is survived by her daughter, Kady Grantham and husband Justin Grantham; her son, Spencer Dunman; her mother, Mary Alice Bowman; her brothers, Laird Bowman and wife Sarah Ann Bowman, and Kent Bowman; her sister, Carol Barba and husband Gary Barba; her treasured niece and nephews, and many other loving family members and dear friends.

Throughout the years, Julia and her former husband Rodney Dunman maintained a friendship out of love and respect for their children and family. She also treasured her relationships with Rodney’s siblings, whose friendship and support brought her great joy.

She dedicated more than 30 years of service to Carilion Clinic, where she formed many lasting friendships. After retirement, Julia dedicated much of her time to caring for her mother and father. She deeply valued those years and cherished every moment spent with them.

Julia was well known in her church community for organizing the community lunch program, a ministry to which she devoted countless hours over many years. She found joy in bringing people together, offering them a warm meal, and a caring heart to all who crossed her path.

Julia was blessed with many close friendships, including friends she had known since childhood.

Though her family and friends grieve her loss, they take comfort in the memories she leaves behind and the love she shared so freely. Julia’s legacy of compassion, service, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations be made to her church, Bethlehem Church of the Brethren in Boones Mill, Virginia.
