Etheleen Dillon Layman

Etheleen Dillon Layman, age 96 of Wirtz, went home to be with the Lord

Thursday, January 15, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Robert Moses Dillon and Mary Kate Ellis Dillon and was also preceded in death by her husband, D.M. Layman, Jr.; four sisters, Mary Barbour (Dick), Nannie Stultz (Carlton), Nina Prillaman (W.T.), Donie Robertson (Calvin) and a brother, Clyde Dillon (Louise), along with other half-sisters and brothers.

Etheleen is survived by her children, Richard (Peggy, deceased) of Covington, OH, Kenneth and wife Brenda of Wirtz, Patricia and husband Donald Brubaker of Rocky Mount, Barbara L. Yarber of Apex, NC, Harold (Theresa, deceased) of Wirtz; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren with another on the way; five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-step-grandchildren, and a special caregiver, Rita Vasquze. Etheleen worked in meat processing for over 25 years. She was a very good mother and the best grandmother. It was our loss, but her eternal gain.

Funeral services will be held at Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Church 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 18, 2026, with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the church (101 Elam Lane, Boones Mill, VA, 24065). Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
