Arlene Poindexter Thomas

October 2, 1937 — December 11, 2025

Mrs. Arlene Thomas, age 88 of Glade Hill, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 11, 2025. She was born October 2, 1937 to the late Clair and Daisy Poindexter.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Thomas; son, Steve Thomas; brother, Tom Poindexter; sister, Nancy Adkins; and sister-in-law, Linda Poindexter.

Surviving are her son, Thadd Thomas and wife Donna Thomas; daughter, Sheila Thomas; granddaughters, Ashley Rutrough and husband Simon, Shannon Sevey and husband Andrew; great-grandsons, Tristan and Alexander; sister, Leverne Blankenship and husband Wayne; brother, Fred Poindexter and Carolyn; brother-in-law, Michael Adkins; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Arlene found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially time spent with family. She cherished Sunday family meals at Daisy’s, lake picnics, gardening, growing flowers, and treasured the time she shared with her sisters. These moments reflected her gentle spirit and deep love for family and nature.

She was a devoted member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and support within her church family. Her faith was a guiding presence throughout her life.

Above all else, Arlene’s heart was defined by her love and devotion as a mother. She cared for her special needs son, Steve, with enduring patience and strength, her compassion and selflessness resonating deeply with all who knew her.

Arlene lived a long life marked by quiet strength and warmth and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of family, friends, and her church family.

The family extends special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Beverly and Joe Rutter, for their kindness, compassion, and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franklin Heights Baptist Church or to your favorite charitable organization.

Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025 with Dr. Stan Parris officiating. Interment will be private at a later date. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
