Ralph Lee Webster

January 9, 1936 – August 13, 2025

Ralph Lee Webster, Born on January 9, 1936, in Callaway, VA, Ralph entered the world in the home of his maternal grandparents, Willie and Essie Custer, who lovingly raised him and his older brother Bobby after the passing of their mother just eleven days after his birth.

Ralph was deeply grateful for the guidance and encouragement of his teachers throughout his education at Callaway Elementary School, Franklin County High School, Ferrum College, Bridgewater College, and Virginia Tech. He carried that gratitude into a meaningful 30-year career as an educator in Roanoke County, where he hoped he was a positive influence on his students.

Ralph was a lifelong and devoted Virginia Tech fan, faithfully attending Hokie football games for 45 years. He remembered Frank Beamer playing. Many happy memories were made traveling to games on Abbot Bus Lines. With his guitar in hand, Ralph led spirited singalongs on the bus, where Fox on the Run was always a favorite among fellow fans.

He was an active member of both the Roanoke Valley and Franklin County Hokie Clubs and served as president of the Franklin County Hokie Club for one year. Ralph cherished the friendships and camaraderie he found through the Hokie community.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, he found joy and companionship in the loyal affection of his beloved dogs over the years.

Ralph is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Peggy; sons, Ed (Ginger) and Eric (Sandi); granddaughters, Morgan and Eva; and half-brother, W.K (Veronica). He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry “Buck” Webster and Flora Custer Webster; his brother, Bobby Webster (Joann); and his half-sister, Nancy Webster Webb (Lewis).
