Joey Lee Callaway, 55, of Rocky Mount Virginia transitioned from his earthly home on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

He was born June 22, 1970 to the late Joseph Callaway and Nancy Carol Tanks Callaway.

Joey showed his strength early on in life as a Virginia High School League (VHSL) state champion wrestler in 1988. 

He loved helping others and was an electrician by trade for many years but when he wasn’t rewiring a building or talking to a stranger he just met like they were best friends, you could find him “Gone Fishing”! He loved God and believed, he that believeth shall have everlasting life.

He is survived by his siblings, Jeffrey Callaway (Sylvia) of Penhook, Virginia, Josephine Callaway of Rocky Mount, Virginia, Carol Callaway of Rocky Mount, Virginia and Lana Hairston (BJ) of Bassett, Virginia; nieces and nephews, LJ Callaway (Kristen), Kadeesha (Kelsey) Callaway, Shanteia Callaway, Daisha Hairston, Bryanna Callaway, Zuri Hairston, and Steven Callaway; great-nieces, Audrey Callaway and Vivienne Callaway; and friend, Audrey Garman.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pigg River Community Center, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
