Ardie “Butch” Virgil Hunt

February 19, 1946 – July 27, 2025

Ardie Virgil Hunt (Butch), age 79 of Callaway left this world on Sunday, July 27, 2025 after dealing with a short illness.

Butch was born and raised in Franklin County, VA. He grew up in Henry Fork on the family farm. He and his eight siblings primed tobacco and rode their beloved horses, Fanny and Tarzan.

Butch got his education via the Job Corps, specializing in engine repair. He loved working on and driving fast cars in his youth. He adored his S-10 pickup truck and owned two during his life. He was also an avid coin collector.

He was a 28-year employee of Cooper Wood Industries. Butch loved to play soft ball in his younger days, and also became a proficient bowler. He was a league member for many years. Butch loved fishing, playing cards, and old cowboy movies. He always looked forward to his cross-country trips, with his nephew, Curtis “Rooster” Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlene Sigmon Hunt; sons, Christopher P. Hunt (Angela Martin) and Jeffery W. Hunt (Tracy); two grandchildren, Zachary Hunt (Amanda) and Nevaeh Hunt (Ethan); one great-grandchild, Cora Layne; brother, David Hunt (Kathy); sisters, Betty Johnson (Dennis) and Nelda Hopkins; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Butch is preceded in death by his father, Oliver Hunt; mother, Helen; brothers, Kenny and Wayne Hunt; and sisters, Patsy Coon and Janet Hodges. 

The family would like to thank the fine people at Carilion Clinic Hospice for their gentle and attentive care.

Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025 with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in the Guilliams-Sigmon Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
