James “Jim” Smith Holland
December 9, 1951 – April 5, 2025

James “Jim” Smith Holland, age 73 of Glade Hill left his earthly home on Saturday, April 5, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Effie Holland; sisters, Mildred Holland Shelton, Hazel Holland Davis and Carrie Holland Foutz; brother, Joseph Benjamin Holland; and nephew, Matthew Foutz.
Jim grew up on a dairy and tobacco farm in Glade Hill, spending his life doing what he loved most: dairy farming with Jeff for 17 years and then continued to raise beef cows with Jeff, farming the land, working with their cow dogs “Shasta” and “Mack” Jim also enjoyed traveling in Virginia and North Carolina for field trails with his bird dogs “Jackie” and “Thunder”, floating the Pigg River, rabbit hunting, and making deer drives with friends. He took pride in driving the school bus and seeing the students daily. Jim especially enjoyed time with his great nephew and niece; Reid Nichols. He helped him learn how to drive the tractors, feeding cows and working in the hay. He loved helping and watching MaKenzie Nichols, show and ride her horses and how she loved to help feed the cows and fish in the ponds. He appreciated Civil War history and participated and re-enactments across the state. Jim was a lifetime member of the Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Glade Hill Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his helpful, gentle spirit and enjoyment of everyday life.
He is survived by his brothers, John Sherrad Holland (Shirley) and Jeffrey Dodd Holland (Cindy), along with nephews and nieces, Eddie Shelton (Debbie), Will Davis (Caroline), Hila Foutz, Scott Foutz (Michelle), Chad Foutz, Tony Holland (Deena), Travis Holland, Kim Wilson (Sandon), Kettie Rupnik (Bryson) and John Will Holland (Katelyn) and his special niece, Chelsea Nichols (Brandon) and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2025 with Rev. David Long officiating. Burial will be private in the Holland Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
