Betty Glass Carlson

April 8, 1933 – April 4, 2025

Betty Lee Glass Carlson of Rocky Mount, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the age 91. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, George W. Carlson, Sr.; and her brother, Richard A. Glass and his wife Sarah. She is also survived by four children, Connie Sorrells and David, Bonnie Kilburn and James, Donna Collins and Marsh, and George Carlson, Jr. There are four grandchildren, Catherine Kilburn, Travis Sorrells and Connie, Brandon Collins and Christine and Austin Collins. There are also five great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Christopher Collins, Benjamin Sorrells, Courtney Rebuck, and Justin Rebuck and Kiley. She is predeceased by one great-great-grandchild, Thomas Anderson.

Betty was born April 8, 1933 in Roanoke, VA. She attended school and church and worked in Roanoke until she met George and they married October 16, 1954. After George completed his tour in the Navy they moved to Lansing, MI where they raised 3 daughters. In 1968 they moved back to VA to Rocky Mount where they bought a small farm and added a son to the family in 1971.

Betty worked as a secretary and school bus driver. She was also very active in her church, Boones Mill Christian Church, where she served as a deacon and elder, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. She was also a volunteer at Craig Springs Church Camp and Stepping Stones Mission of Franklin County.

A memorial service will be held at Boones Mill Christian Church, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
