Jeanette Jones Akers

Jeanette Jones Akers, age 83 of Union Hall and formerly of Waynesboro, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024. She was born March 8, 1941 in Pulaski, VA. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Bert Akers, Jr. who died September 6, 1993. Bill was the first News Director for Radio Station WAYB. He later became the Editor of the Daily Progress in Charlottesville and Editor and Public Relations Director for the DuPont Company in Waynesboro. She was also preceded in death by her father, Arthur F. Jones; mother, Irene Jones Linville; sister, Judy J. Collins; very special cousin whom she always thought of as a sister, Patsy T. Smith; and step-father, Bill Linville. Surviving are her sisters, JoAnn Duncan and Pamela J. Akers; numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanette retired from the Waynesboro Court System where she had 40 years of service and served in many capacities beginning as secretary and then serving numerous terms as Deputy Clerk of Court. She was awarded a certificate of a Certified Circuit Clerk through the University of Virginia. She served in the Virginia Court Clerk’s Association as Secretary-Treasurer for four years and was the second woman to be elected to this position. Following retirement, she moved to Smith Mountain Lake where she was active in many organizations including the Garden Club, Rotary Club and Beta Sigma Phi.
