Garnett Hoover Potter
February 7, 1929 – December 20, 2024
Garnett Hoover Potter of Rocky Mount, Virginia passed peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 95. He was the youngest of child born to Lewis and Nannie Kirk Potter on February 7, 1929. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Quinn Potter, his seven siblings and their spouses; Willard (Julia) Potter, Clara (Doc) Jones, Ruby (Lloyd) Reynolds, Cliff (Mary) Potter, Gene (Loal Mae) Potter, Ralph (Hester) Potter, Ben (Dora/Pearl) Potter.
He grew up in Penhook and helped on the family tobacco farm until the joined the US Army during the Korean war and served in the European Command with the 2nd EVAC Hospital Motor Pool. When he returned home from the war he helped on the family farm until he joined Wickline Chevrolet, later Gil Farmer Chevrolet, for over 20 years and during those years he received the top salesman numerous times. He then worked for the United States Postal Service as a town and rural route carrier for 15 years until he retired.
He and his best friend Page English purchased a boat in the early days of SML. He taught many people to ski and at one time was able to pull a family of 13 to ski together. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Willow Creek Golf Club. He enjoyed going on golfing trips with friends to various states. He loved taking the whole family to Myrtle Beach each year. After retirement he and Ruby purchased a RV and traveled to Florida during the winter months. They also traveled all over the US and Canada. He loved having a garden and sharing it with everyone and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Hoover is survived by is daughters Paula (Steve) Ratliff and Robin (Jay) Meador; his grandchildren: William (Dorothy) Ratliff, Hannah (Rob) Ryan, Michael Meador, and Alyson (Mallie) Meador and great grandchildren: Delaney, Kennedy and Patrick Ryan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
