A lifetime resident of Franklin County, Florence grew up on a tobacco farm in Snow Creek, Virginia. She moved to Rocky Mount as a young adult where she pursued a career at Peoples National Bank, ultimately serving as Assistant Vice President. Florence met Bill in Rocky Mount, where they remained for their 51 wonderful years of marriage. They were members of the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church.

Florence was an incredibly gifted artist, often choosing to paint landscapes of her garden and scenic home which she loved. She will be remembered for her kind and generous demeanor, her quick wit, and her tender heart. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joys in life. Her unfailing support, love, and encouragement for them made a lasting impact in their lives and will be terribly missed. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
