Robert “Bob” Edward Gillespie

April 9, 1941 – September 21, 2024

Robert “Bob” Edward Gillespie, age 83, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at his home in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia.

At Smith Mountain Lake, Bob enjoyed helping his neighbors.  He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed many memories together, including diving competitions off the dock, waiting for the ice cream boat and the many amazing boat rides at sunset. Bob not only had the quickest wit and greatest slapstick jokes at family gatherings, but he also provided counsel and lessons to help guide his family through different stages of life. Bob will be remembered for his kindness, laughter, jokes, stories and guidance.

Robert is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Brian R. Gillespie and his wife Shawnee Gillespie and Justin E. Gillespie; and two grandchildren, Caleb B. Gillespie and Rachel M. Gillespie.

There will be no services. In honor of Bob, please consider donating to the American Red Cross and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
