Alton Junior Dent

December 22, 1942 – October 1, 2024

Alton Junior Dent, age 81 of Glade Hill left for his heavenly home Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born December 22, 1942, a son of the late John Junior Dent and Vera Powell Dent. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Hazel Johnson Dent. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Altice Dent; daughter, Mary Katherine “Kathy” Sink (Barry); son, Jeff Alan Dent (Emily); grandchildren, Michael Underwood and Sara Pendleton (Jessy); great-grandson, Owen Underwood; brothers, Donnie Dent, Steve (Kaye) Dent; step-granddaughter, Shaina; nieces and nephews, Jeanette Dent (David Beeghly), Stephanie Smith (Eric), Nathan Dent (Erin), and Katilin Dent (Chris); great nieces and nephews, Brittany Greenwood and daughter, Madison, Josh Blankenship (Cheyenne) and son Ryder, Rylee and Adalee; special friends, Billie and Martha Hubbard, Mark Hudzik and his Yokohama family. Alton was retired from Yokohama Tire and Rubber with over 30 years of service. He was recently an attendant at Webster Road Trash Collection Site. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and their wonderful nurses Jennifer, Rachel, Terri and Mark for all of their loving care shown to Alton. A memorial service will be held at Rocky Mount First Church of the Brethren, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2024 with Pastor John Collins officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the church (405 Tanyard Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
