Laquita Ramsey Amos
November 22, 1946 – September 17, 2024
Laquita Ramsey Amos, beloved mother and grandmother, joined her husband, Dr. J. Francis Amos, in Heaven on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 after a long battle with dementia. Daughter of the late Neville and Christine Ramsey, Laquita was a beautiful and caring example of God’s love to those who knew her. Proverbs 31:26,28 “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
Laquita graduated from National Business College and enjoyed working for several years as a secretary with N&W Railroad. After the birth of their first child, Laquita stayed home and began her lifelong career as a homemaker. Her husband often remarked that she had the harder job, caring for their historic home and raising four children. Laquita was known as a beautiful and caring soul who was filled with love for others, as she met everyone with a smile. She had a range of talents and interests including: cooking, sewing, knitting, caning furniture and baskets, home decorating, love of outdoors, and music. Laquita was also a member of Franklin Heights Church and enjoyed being a member of her Sunday School class.
Being married to Francis for 53 years gave her an appreciation of history, in her own way. Laquita was the keeper of her family’s memories and created countless photo albums and recipe books as part of her legacy. She enjoyed hosting large family gatherings or celebrations, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished. She was usually found on the floor playing with, or cuddling them, and sneaking them chocolate or cookies their parents wouldn’t allow. As time went on and Laquita’s disease progressed, she found comfort in beloved hymns which soothed her as she sang or hummed along. Dementia progressively stole many things from Laquita, although it could not dampen her joyful spirit or her faith and love of family.
Laquita is survived by her brothers, Larry and Lynn Ramsey (Phyllis); children, Jesse Francis Amos II “Frank” (Jennifer), Susan Kirby (Scott), Christine “Chris” Brown (Daniel), and John Amos (Manaka). Left with memories of her love are her grandchildren, Ramsey and Jesse Amos, Noah and Rowan Chrisley, Garrison, Kenley, and Lawson Brown, and Vivian “Vivi” Amos; and step-grandchildren, Peyton and Joshua Kirby; brother-in-law, George Thomas Amos (Mary); nieces and nephews, Tiffany Apostle (Andrew), Courtney Edmunds, Gary Ramsey (Marybless), Lori Contreras (Devin), and Brandi Buff (Ryan), Sarah Dillon (Lynn), Tommy Amos (Debbie), MaryAlice Green (Lewis); and multiple great-nieces and nephews.
