Dottie Sutherland

Dottie Sutherland, age 93 of Hardy passed away Monday, September 16, 2024. She was born May 21, 1931, the daughter of the late William and Mildred Thornton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George William Sutherland; brother, Donald Thornton Sr.; and nephew, Donald Thornton Jr. Surviving are her niece, Debbie (Thomas) Mallard; cousin, Ginger (Bob) Roman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dottie was a charter member of Christ Community Church and she loved her Lord. Dottie enjoyed her caring neighbors at Runk and Pratt and her longtime friends in the local community. She loved flowers, birds, beautiful music and the finer things in life. Dottie loved her precious fur babies, whom she treated as her children. A service will be held in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Mountain View Memorial Park, 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024 with Rev. Ed McClain officiating. A reception will follow at Runk and Pratt in Hardy, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.
