David Lawrence Dotson

May 17, 1961 – September 13, 2024

Surrounded by his loving family, David Lawrence Dotson, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the age of 63. David was born May 17, 1961, in Kentucky, to John Robert Dotson and the late Clara Jean Schiesz Dotson. David was a caring and devoted husband of 42 years, a father to a daughter and son, and grandfather to three grandsons. David was a Veteran, serving in the US Army, attended Rocky Mount Christian Church, past Master of Snow Creek Masonic Lodge #90, and employed at ProAmpac in Rocky Mount.

David never met a stranger. Everywhere he and Donna traveled, they always made fast friends. He loved pulling his camper to the races, watching his grandsons play ball, working in his yard, caring for his fishpond, feeding his “fancy goldfish”, watching sunsets in his backyard (or anywhere, for that matter), dancing on the patio, playing Yahtzee, Pete Rose, whom he was able to meet in February, and the Cincinnati Bengals.

David is survived by his loving wife Donna Lynette Patterson Dotson, daughter and son-in-law Denise Lain Dotson Arrington and CJ, son David Scott Dotson, grandsons Landon Kace Arrington, Holden Gage Arrington, and Rowan Knox Arrington, and his biggest fan, the big red dog Rufus Turner; his Ohio family, father, John Robert Dotson and stepmother Barb; his twin sisters Julie Wagner and husband Robert, and June Blakley and husband David, and Patti Dotson; his North Carolina family, mother-in-law Carrol Hunter; sister-in-law Tina Butcher and husband Todd; brother-in-law Kevin Patterson and wife Kim; many loved nieces and nephews and their families; and countless dear friends he made over the years.

A Celebration of Life to honor David will be held at the Pigg River Community Center at 2410 S Main St Rocky Mount, VA 24151 on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2:00 in the afternoon officiated by Mike Elkins. Special thanks to Hospice, the entire Roanoke Oral Surgery family, and everyone who has helped us over the last three weeks. Big Hugs! Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
