Carlton Swain Cooper, Sr.
November 24, 1943 – September 11, 2024
Carlton S. Cooper, Sr., age 80, of Moneta passed away peacefully from his earthly home to his heavenly mansion on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1943 to the late Rufus Alfred and Elmetta Maranda Cooper.
In addition to his parents, Carlton was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Hal and Leilani Cooper, and brother-in-law, Robert Jeffries.
Carlton was a dedicated heating and air conditioning mechanic for over 50 years, owning Cooper Heating and Air Conditioning since 1974. He was known for his dedication to his craft, unfaltering work ethic and for the many friendships he acquired over the years.
Carlton was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and caregiver as well as a kind, witty and thoughtful. He never quit being a kid and loved making people smile and laugh. He never met a stranger and was definitely one of a kind.
Carlton was a member of Halesford Baptist Church. He was a great neighbor who valued his community. He was first to lend a helping hand to family, friends, or any neighbors who needed it. His Christian faith was strong, no matter the challenges he faced. Carlton was interested in riding the road while looking for bargains, traveling to the beach, thrift shopping and helping others out. He considered himself a jack-of-all trades and was always tinkering with something.
Carlton is survived by five beloved children: sons; Carlton S. Cooper, Jr., (Dana), Chris Cooper (Sandy) and Dennis Cooper (Kelli); daughters, Myrandi Cooper and Lorrie Cooper (Dooley Thompson); grandsons, Justin Cooper (Chasity), Jacob Cooper, Joshua Cooper, Kolton Cooper and Dawson Cooper; granddaughters, Amanda Wiseman (Ethen) and Kylie Cooper; great-grandchildren, Mikayla Wiseman, Belle Wiseman, Westin Cooper and Rylee Cooper. Also surviving is his sister, “Sissy” Pat Jeffries and special friends, Lacy Cundiff and Diane Cooper, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his most beloved fur-baby and traveling companion, “Chew”.
Funeral services will be held at Halesford Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2024 with Pastors Melvin Harris and Keith Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons International or your local animal shelter. The family would like to send special thanks to Carilion Roanoke Memorial and 9 South ICU for their excellent support and care during the last few weeks. His family would also like to thank Dr. Luke Delpo at Westlake Veterinary, for his continued love and care for all of Carlton’s fur-babies.
