Elton Wayne Cundiff (“Catman”) 83, of Glade Hill (Jacks Mountain), VA went to his Heavenly home on Monday, September 2, 2024. He was born on September 7, 1940, in Glade Hill, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hilda Cundiff; brother, Rodney Cundiff; sister, Shelby Turner; brothers-in-law, Harold Jones and Mitchell Turner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alexis N. Cundiff; children, Barry E. Cundiff (Cindy) and Amanda C. Brooks (Merriman); grandchildren, Beth Brooks (Jonathan), Katelin Montgomery (Chris), Andrew Brooks (Kayla), Amber Mitchell (Nick), Carrie Ramey (Bobby), Kasey Greer (Ryan) and Caroline Johnson (Hunter); great-grandchildren, Brooks, Emma, and Eleanor Mitchell, Stetson Brooks, Merranda-Mae and Nathaniel Neeley, Ryan and Zander Ramey, Charlee and Kemper Montgomery; siblings, Daphene Jones, Judy Hudson (Vernon), Bonnie Cundiff, Debra Bowyer (Steve), Ned Cundiff (Judy); several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Bobby Hubbard.
Elton was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. For a total of 52 years, he was in the excavating business. For several years, he and his brother, Rodney, owned Cundiff Brothers Excavating. He also started his own company, Elton Cundiff Bulldozing and Farms, which has been in business for over 3 decades. He was one of the original founding members of the Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department and still volunteered as an active member. Elton was a tobacco farmer and worked at Brookneal and Neal’s tobacco warehouse. He was an avid outdoorsman, he especially loved hunting trips to run bear and deer dogs in the surrounding counties and fishing as well. Elton was a member of Glade Hill Baptist Church. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
Visitation will be held at Glade Hill Baptist Church on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Glade Hill Baptist Church. Rev. David Long and Rev. Kevin Howerton will officiate. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department (PO Box 14 Glade Hill, VA 24092).
