Charles Nelson Rakes, age 90 of Rocky Mount died Saturday, August 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Elizabeth Rakes; his wife of 46 years, Jean Rakes; and siblings, Paul Rakes, Zellar Rakes, Ruby Cash and Gladys Hankins. Surviving are his sons, Mike Rakes and Richard Rakes (Lorrie); his granddaughters, Brooke Rakes and Bethany Rakes; along with many loving nieces and nephews. Charles was a Sergeant in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was also a contractor in the construction industry and enjoyed NASCAR, westerns and classic cars. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers are welcome or a donation to a veteran’s charity of your choice.
