Carroll Wilson Clark

November 28, 1936 – August 31, 2024

Carroll Wilson Clark, 87, fell asleep in Jesus August 31, 2024 at Franklin Health and Rehab Center, Rocky Mount, Virginia.

Given life by his Creator, Carroll was born November 28, 1936 in Roanoke, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, he was born again in the waters of Holy Baptism and remained a faithful Christian until his passing—ever-conscious of God’s holiness, and ever-thankful for the Father’s grace in Jesus Christ and the work of His Spirit in our lives.

After graduating from Covington High School in 1954, Carroll briefly attended the Virginia Military Institute and served in the U.S. Air Force. As a young man, Carroll enjoyed hunting and fishing there in Covington. For most of his life, he worked in and managed furniture plants in both Virginia and North Carolina. He also loved history and was proud to work at the Catawba County Historical Museum in Newton, NC before returning to Rocky Mount, VA to live out his final years.

Next to his faith, Carroll most valued his family. He gave thanks especially that his children are Christians, and he was proud that two served as deacons in their churches and another became a pastor. He also was proud that his children all embraced his own strong work ethic—“none of my kids has a lazy bone in their body,” he would often say. Carroll also loved animals, especially the birds he fed every day and the many dogs he had over the years. In addition to his faith and love, he will be remembered for his ability to make everyone laugh, and how much he liked to laugh together.

Carroll was preceded in death by his brothers, Dick and Clifton Clark, and by two children, Deborah Marie Clark Webb and Donald Maurice Clark. He also was preceded in death by two former spouses, Betty Lou Keyser Clark Morris and Susan Patricia Bolch Clark.

Carroll is survived by several children: David Michael Clark (Judy), De Anna Michelle Clark Slate, and Adam Carroll Clark (Christy); grandchildren: Tyler and Devin Clark, Justin Tyler Crook, William and Amber Slate, and Emma and Elena Clark; and great-grandchild, Alissa Slate. He also is survived by loving neighbors who became family: Sherman and Karen Preston, and their children Dymond, Anastasia, and Dakera Preston and Qualisha Trotter.

Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount, VA at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 with Carroll’s son, the Rev. Dr. Adam Clark, presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any church or any humane society animal care center. There will not be a separate visitation, but the family will be happy to greet you after the funeral. Condolences may be shared at www.florafuneralservice.com.
